LR Light Rigid Truck Licence

From Class C to LR Licence

A LR (Light Rigid) Licence is the next class up from a car licence. You must have held a car licence for at least 12 months to be eligible. This licence allows you to drive any motor vehicle more than 4.5 tonnes GVM but no more than 8 tonnes GVM.

Vehicles that you can drive:

  • Any motor vehicle more than 4.5 tonnes GVM but no more than 8 tonnes GVM.
  • Any towed trailer up to 9 tonnes GVM.
  • Any vehicle with a GVM of up to 8 tonnes which carries more than 12 adults including the driver.
  • Eg: Trucks, buses

Requirements

  • Have held a Class MR or HR licence for at least one year.
  • P2 licence holders cannot upgrade to this licence
  • Complete the Roads and Maritime Service Rigid knowledge test and obtain a Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) logbook and guidebook

  • Road Rules & Directions

  • Reverse

  • Hill Stop/Start

  • Load Securing

  • Coupling/Uncoupling

  • Final Competency Test

  • Summative Assessment

Course Duration

Applicants will receive up to 9 hours of training and assessment time; if found competent then proceed for the final competence test; however, a 48 hours notice is required by Roads and Maritime Services for the final competence test to be conducted.
